Quit Smoking Advice From My Mom

Quit smoking is not child’s play. It is a serious task that requires tidy effort and dedication otherwise you will be back in the game soon. One wise thing that you can do when you plan to quit smoking is to seek the advice and experience of someone who had quit smoking, like my Mom. My mom used to puff away one and half packets of cigarettes on a single day in her good old days. I still cannot believe it; 40 years ago on a fine morning in 1967 she quit smoking. A person like my mom who has experienced the difficulties to quit smoking can be of great support to you.

Go Cold Turkey

My mom feels that going cold turkey is the best way to stop smoking. This is absolutely right when you have a strong mind and time to spare for quit smoking. You can feel the pressure of nicotine deficiency in the body straight away and take necessary steps to get rid of it. Mom, being a homemaker always had the time to concentrate on such things to take care of her decision to quit smoking. It will be hard for others to cope up with the withdrawal symptoms without medicines or patches especially when you have a job.

Keep Your Hands Busy

The main factor that prevents you from quit smoking is the period when you have nothing to do. Your hand, mouth, respiratory system and brain were engaged effortlessly when you were smoking. When you suddenly quit smoking your hand will become twitchy and your mind will be searching for a way out. Instead of thinking about smoking again keep your hands busy by engaging yourself in some hobbies like my mom did. She went for knitting; you can select your own like cooking, gardening, solving puzzles, computers etc. to quit smoking forever.

Eat Lots Of Celery

One of the withdrawal symptoms when you quit smoking is a sticky mouth. Just like what you did to your hand, you have to engage your mouth also. Eat or chew something that can keep your mouth busy. My mom used to eat celery but if you don’t like it go for something of low calories like sugarless candies or chewing gum.

Keep Your Inspiration Close

Just think of the factor which inspired you to quit smoking. Always try to be close to that inspirational factor. The very sight or thought of that factor can reduce the temptation to smoke again. My mom made it by seeing the hardships of a man who could not quit smoking even when he was suffering from emphysema.
